Prof. Phani Tetali is currently the Head of IDC School of Design, IIT Bombay.


Phani completed his B.Tech in Mining Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, IIT BHU in 1988 and thereafter completed his Masters in Visual Communication Design from IDC, IIT Bombay in 1991. For 18 years after he graduated, he worked in the Animation and Gaming industries and was involved in setting up and running some of the biggest animation and gaming studios in India. He also ran his own Animation studio, Animatix, in Chennai (1996-98) where he produced an Animated episodic series, Tara Ki Duniya.


His experience includes producing several games for various platforms, including “Archie’s Riverdale Run”, an XBOX 360 game based on the highly popular Archie comics. He is an animation consultant and a passionate cartoonist and illustrator. He joined IDC, IIT Bombay as a faculty member in 2009. His overall experience spans close to 30 years.

In the year 2017, IIT Bombay awarded him with the SP Sukhatme Award for Excellence in Teaching. His passion for cartooning won him recognition from the National Newspaper, The Times of India as one of the top cartoonists in India.
