with apologies to Ajit (hope you had your promised and much needed hair cut!). Drawn with an intuos 3 tablet.
Impressive Indeed!
“Aaroha — DDS 2010″, an exhibition of the works of the graduating batch of IDC, IIT Bombay students of 2010, was held in Nehru Centre, Mumbai. Here’s an article that covers the impressive event and some student projects.

“Singaara Chennai”
It means “Beautiful Chennai”.
It has now been almost 12 years since I left Chennai. After staying in Chennai for almost 30 years and spending all my childhood there, I miss the place dearly. Every once in a while, there is something or the other that comes up that takes my thoughts back to Chennai. I miss the people, I miss the culture. I miss Marina and Beasant Nagar Beach, I miss Saravana Bhavan… I don’t miss the sweat though , I get enough of that in Mumbai
I miss the swings in the verandahs, the smell of filter coffee early in the morning, the Hindu newspaper…
Here’s one for the typical “Chennai Mama” (the next door uncle)
He’s seems to have liked the coffee his wife made for him, and he’s making sure his wife knows!

Here are some more roughs out of my sketch books

Aaroha
I look forward to the annual exhibition held by the graduating design students of IDC, IIT Bombay. Tomorrow and the day after.
This event called “Aaroha” is to be held at the Nehru Centre, worli, Mumbai.
The students have all worked really hard on their projects over the past year and this exhibition is indeed a fitting finale!
All the very best, guys and gals! May the Force be with you!

Old Sketches
Posted by phani in Illustration on June 24th, 2010
Here are two more quick sketches I did in way back in 1989
Like I mentioned in some previous post, it is fun to document one’s old sketches. I found these in some forgotten file in some forgotten trunk.
The technique was pen and photo ink washes (something I still enjoy doing).

Updates :-)
There seem to be many things going on around me. While there is a feeling of being a little scattered, I’m happy that there’s tons of work to do! And that’s keeping me going. Apart from my regular work, Illustration/animation projects that are currently going on are:
1) Researching on making a comic book. Though it is at a very preliminary stage (currently working on character designs), I’m finding it quite interesting.
2) Black and White Illustrations for a book of memoirs – stories based in Kerala, India
3) A set of cartoons on India
4) Two animated books for children
5) Two comic strips
6) Storyboarding my next animation film.
7) Other miscellaneous illustration work that I promised my daughter I’ll do
phew! I hope I will do justice to these projects. I’ll keep posting updates as we go.
Until then, here’s a wonderful link for cartoonists/caricaturists/comic book artists that I stumbled upon while doing research for my projects. Please click here.

Coloring a Comic Book Page
Here’s an interesting video on coloring a comic book page using photoshop. It’s really fun to see the page come out alive with color, Isn’t it?
The Artist’s name is mentioned as J.T and operates online under the name of “singletentacle”
