Old Works

These Illustrations are from a book called “Women’s Rights”. This book was published by the Government of Tamil Nadu in India. I enjoyed drawing straight on paper with a rotring pen (no pencilling). All illustrations are copyright the Govt. of Tamil Nadu, India. I did these in 1996. I think I got a week’s time to do these illustrations.
Hope you like them

ORDINARY MR PAI
These are rough sketches for the book:
ORDINARY MR PAI by Kalpana Swaminathan art Phani Tetali
This book contains two original stories, Bangles for Bansode and Ordinary Mr Pai. These quaint, quirky fairytales tug at the heartstrings even as they make you laugh. They carry the reader off on a fantastic journey where anything can happen!
Bangles for Bansode is about a mean, miserly landlord called Bansode who rules the lives of 553 tenants of an old, tumbledown block of flats called Africa House. It takes a young girl, confined to a wheelchair, to teach Bansode a lesson that keeps him and his tenants smiling!
Ordinary Mr Pai is the story of a man called Pai who lives with his parrot in a Mumbai suburb. One morning he meets the most extraordinary talking crow. And Mr Pai’s what-should-have-been-a-very-ordinary-day goes for a mighty six.
