DDS 2010
Every year, the graduating batch of the Industrial Design Centre (IDC), IIT Bombay showcases their creative work and projects through a grand exhibition. The event is called the “Design Degree Show”. Jaipur
I was on an official trip to Jaipur, Rajasthan recently. I visited Rajasthan after many many years. I love the beauty of the people and state of Rajasthan. I enjoyed myself during the three days that I stayed there and interacted with the local people. I look forward to going back there sometime soon. Maybe during the coming winter

It was nice working with Prasad (on my right) and Nutan (on my left)

Catching up with Dr. Vibhuti Pandya after a long time

During a meeting with Prof. Bidyut Baruah
Thanks for the great time I had meeting you, Vibhuti and Bidyut.
(Vibhuti and Bidyut have been colleagues for a long time and they currently teach animation at the Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra at their Jaipur campus)

Great News!
Just as I was recovering from the power outage and as I started charging my mobile phone, last nights mails and messages began to pour in.
One of the emails was from my student, Vajra Pancharia. He wrote to tell me that his film “Hunger” had won the Frameflixx award for the best animation short film in the student category!
This is great news, Vajra! I’m very proud of you!
Congratulations! Way to go.

New Delhi
Reached New Delhi after almost 17 months. The last I was here was when I came to deliver some lectures on Animation Pre Production at the Picasso Animation College, at their South extension centre. It was in the midst of winter, and it was as cold as ever.
Now it’s as hot as ever! While I was hoping to get some respite from the hot Hyderabad weather, the announcement on the aircraft as we were landing in the Delhi airport was “the outside temperature is 39 degrees”. And this was at 8pm! Well….from the frying pan to the fire
In any case, I am looking forward to the Design Conclave I am attending tomorrow, being conducted by the Raffles Millenium Institute. The session is called “Designing your future”.
More on the Design Conclave here.
More updates tomorrow. Until then…

Animation by Engineers!
This is a very nice animation short called “Kindergarten Dreams” made by the previous batch of B.tech students of IIT Bombay. I really liked the idea of the film and the execution. Apart from this, I will post other short films that the B.Tech students did as part of an Institute elective course that I had offered during this semester called “The Basics of Animation”. It was really refreshing seeing the latent talents showing potential! I enjoyed offering this course
Animafest 2010
This is a bit dated, but in my attempt to make up for lost time and catch up, I’m posting some highlights of the past three months.
The Industrial Design Centre (IDC), IIT Bombay, along with the French Consulate, organised a three day animation festival at the IDC in the last week of January, 2010. There were some interesting panel discussions and very good French and Indian professional and student films screened. It sure was a great beginning. Here’s hoping for a great future for the Animafest.
The Panelists (L to R): Ranjit Singh Tony, Jerzy Kular, Shelley Page and Sumant Rao
We enjoyed a 3D film screening during the opening of the festival
The sessions were engaging and enriching. It was a great experience to moderate the panel discussions.
